From Milan to Como is about 54 km and about 55 minutes in normal traffic, measured from Milano Centrale: you leave the city heading north and follow the A9 to the Como exit. The train is a good alternative here: from Milano Centrale to Como S. Giovanni it takes about 40 minutes, runs every hour and costs about 5 euro. You still have to reach the station in Milan and, in Como, cover the stretch from the station to the hotel with your suitcases, and the train does not serve the lake villages beyond the town.
