From the lake to the Engadine over the Maloja
From Como to St. Moritz is about 131 km and about 2 h 50 in normal traffic. You drive up the lake to its northern end, continue to Chiavenna, enter Switzerland in Val Bregaglia and climb into the Engadine on the hairpin bends of the Maloja pass. The kilometres are not many, but all of them are lake and mountain roads: traffic in season, snow and border checks make travel times indicative. By train the journey runs through Tirano and the Bernina railway, with times and fares to check on the operator's timetable.
